Dear MHSAA Community,

MHSAA staff has been working diligently for months with the Governor’s office and health department officials on return to activity plans during the COVID pandemic. On June 30, Governor Whitmer released the MI Safe Schools Roadmap and it tasked the MHSAA with creating and publishing the guidance for the reopening of school sports. For the past eight weeks, staff has worked to fulfill this mandate and has published all materials at MHSAA.com. During this process, the MHSAA has made certain that athletic guidance complies with all Executive Orders of the Governor.

Over the past two weeks, our staff has been in regular communication with the Governor’s office seeking further clarification and guidance on issues within the current Executive Orders as well as answers on the use of indoor school gyms and swimming pools in Regions 1-5 and 7. Today, the Representative Council was ready to allow competition in all Regions of the state in boys soccer, girls swimming & diving and volleyballbut was not able to do so yet because of these unanswered questions. It is our hope that further guidance on these questions will reach the MHSAA within the coming week. The MHSAA, the Representative Council and member schools are committed to following all current and future Executive Orders in keeping our athletic programs fully compliant with all orders and by following all safety precautions.

Based on these facts, the Representative Council approved the following items today, subject to current and future Executive Orders.

We understand that some school districts may opt-out of fall sports. If your fall teams do not intend to have a fall season, please alert the MHSAA.

The MHSAA will continue to keep schools informed with additional and updated information as we have throughout the COVID pandemic.

Thank you.

Mark Uyl

Today we were joined by the Executive Director of the Michigan High School Athletic Association, Mark Uyl. He also brought up the Big Ten and how reports are saying there wasn’t even a vote taken to cancel the season – which leaves a lot to be questioned. We then wanted to move on to talk about the Tigers and their recent losing streak. Tom Gage joined us for this conversation and to talk about the three young guys that have been brought up for the Tigers. Huge and Tom also talked about “unwritten rules” in baseball and about that Grand Slam from Fernando Tatis Jr. and the Padres last night.

In our second hour we continued to talk some Major League Baseball and unwritten rules with Jon Morosi, and he and Huge also discussed the NHL playoffs and what they’re liking this far. We then moved back to talk about College football in the fall. We were joined by Graham Couch for a discussion on the Big Ten and if he and Huge think the B10 would reverse what they’ve done – given that there’s been a lot of new information brought to light in the past week or so.

We continued the conversation about the MLB and our Detroit Tigers in the final hour of the show today. We were joined by Dan Hasty to get his thoughts on the new guys being brought up to play this week. Dan and Huge talked about how they feel about the Tigers at this point and where they see them going from here on out. Then, as Lions training camp is going on right now – we were joined by Mike O’Hara to get his thoughts on how all of that is going as they’re allowed to wear pads now. To wrap up the show, we were joined by Tim McCullough from the Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort in Mt. Pleasant.

Listen Here: https://omny.fm/shows/the-huge-show/the-huge-show-august-18th-full-show

The Huge Show is heard Statewide in Michigan Weekday afternoons 3-6pm.

am 1270 Detroit

106.1/1340 Grand Rapids

99.7/1450 Holland

100.9 Midland/Bay City.
