I don’t buy into the pre-season AP Top-25 too much. Sure it’s fodder for the writers, the radio, the fans, etc., but we need to actually see these teams take the field before we get all crazy about…LSU.  After week one, here’s the actual Top-25 in College Football.

The AB Top 25

1. GEORGIA (1-0) W 48-7 vs UT Martin.

If you want to be the best, you have to beat the best & the 2-time defending champs are looking for the 1st 3-peat in AP poll era (1936). Carson Beck is now at the helm of the offense & rolled to the tune of 21/31 for 294yds & a TD. They did it in all 3-phases of the game. UGA has the belt & retains it.

2. FLORIDA STATE (1-0) W 45-24 vs. #5 LSU

Hello Jordan Travis & the Seminoles! FSU, down at the half by 3, came out for the secondnd half and blitzed the Bayou Bengals 31-7 in the 2nd half. The BIGGEST WIN of the weekend.

3. ALABAMA (1-0) W 56-7 vs MIDDLE TENNESSEE

Saban has his QB in Jalen Milroe accounting for 5TDs (3 passing, 2 rushing). A typical pounding of a powder puff from the Crimson Tide.

4. USC (2-0) W 66-14 vs NEVADA

Speaking of powder puffs, USC has now already crossed 122 total points this year versus 2 G5 opponents. Caleb Williams has some serious competition for the reigning Heisman to reclaim the title as the best player in the sport, but that offense is NUTS.

5. MICHIGAN (1-0) W 30-3 vs ECU

Michigan made the Pirates abandon ship EARLY on Saturday. JJ McCarthy was almost perfect for 280 yards & 3TDs but I was surprised a little at a smaller production sample from one of the mostly highly touted RB duos in the country.

6. OHIO STATE (1-0) W 23-3 vs INDIANA

The Buckeyes might be little concerned about the QB play for the 1st time in what feels like a century. Sure, they beat a conference opponent by 20 on the road, but it’s Indiana, and it’s not hoops season. If Kyle McCord can’t get the ball to Marvin Harrison Jr more than 2x per game, that’s a waste of an elite talent on the perimeter.

7. WASHINGTON (1-0) W 56-19 vs BOISE STATE

Michael Penix Jr. is one of MANY QBs in the soon to be defunct PAC-12, but Washington for the 1st time in a long time might be the real deal.

8. PENN STATE (1-0) W 38-15 vs WEST VIRGINIA

Nice to see some Power-5 head-2-head matchups in the non-conference slate. Drew Allar threw 3 touchdowns and that Nittany Lions defense did a nice job.

9. NOTRE DAME (2-0) W 56-3 vs TENNESSEE STATE

The Fighting Irish have themselves some legitimate QB play in Sam Hartman and for the 2nd consecutive game didn’t allow their opponent to get into the end zone.

10. TENNESSEE (1-0) W 49-13 vs VIRGINIA

Former Michigan Man, Joe Milton, led the Volunteers to a nice Power 5 win in week 1. Can Milton keep up what hendon Hooker built last year for Rocky Top?

11. TEXAS (1-0) W 37-10 vs RICE

For the 73rd straight season, I’m trying my best not to buy into the Texas hype this season.  Too much to prove for the Longhorns for me to believe that this 27 point win was anything more than a superior athletic program.

12. OREGON (1-0) W 81-7 vs PORTLAND STATE

Bo. Nix. The Ducks flew right past PS. Not a quality opponent, but that’s a ton of points versus another college football program.

13. UTAH (1-0) W 24-11 vs FLORIDA

Utah beat Florida because Florida is a better brand than a football program — they’re probably #4 in their own state. A lot of smack-talk by the Gators before the game and they were never really even in it to begin with “little ahh stadium” they say.

14. NORTH CAROLINA (1-0) vs 31-17 vs SOUTH CAROLINA

Nice game from Drake Made in a dual vs. Spencer Rattler. Rivalry game at a Neutral site matters, good opening test for UNC in what looks like an open ACC with Clemson’s opening week failure.

15. LSU (0-1) L 45-24 vs FLORIDA STATE

Tough for me to put LSU this high, in fact, it disgusts me, but we know Brian Kelly & company are bound to rattle off 8-straight after this embarrassment.
